On Color and Stash

Welcome to the first day of KniCroBlo week here at chez Voie de Vie.

I love color.
It does not confuse me.
I once again (I did this last year, too) decided to take a photo of my stash. I am once again just slightly embarrassed to admit that this is not all of my stash ... but I did get all of the major color groups represented.

The greens and blues in the back are definitely my staple colors - I go to them all the time. I have many blue and green FOs. The peach, creams and red from the middle to front are colors I also love a lot, but don't always wear. Pink can get too sugary sweet; red is great but only in the right tone - too much of a blue undertone and it will wash me out. Brown and natural are great colors for me, but can get a little boring. I love purple and do have some of it in my stash (the middle of the picture), as well as a few FOs. The one color virtually absent from the stash is yellow. I am not a big fan of yellow - lemons are great, but not to wear. At least not for me. The orange side of yellow is just fine, however.

Because orange (even in muted form) is powerfully good.
See what I mean?

If my designing hat is on, I will in many instances want to use orange in some hue. This has been a great year for orange (thanks, Pantone for naming a shade of tangerine color of the year).

And some of my FOs - can you spot
the blue/green theme?

I always think a lot about color. How about you? Do you know which colors work best for you? Did writing today's post illuminate some personal color insight? Definitely leave a comment and let me know all about your color theories.

    1. To the left of the Linnate is Filatura di Crosa Centrolavaggi - over 1500 yards of apricot lace goodness. I also have one hank of it in gray.

And yes, that's Laine du Nord - it was part of my blog swap yarn from Goddess Jasmine. :)

    1. To which you added some lovely mohair and that orange skein of awesomeness!

BTW, I'm almost done with that bar of your sister's soap. Very fragrant, and it's reminded me of the blog hub swap the entire time. :)

  6. I keep hearing that tangerine is the color of the year. I think everyone's favorable posts have started to convert me to the idea.

  7. I'm not a fan of citrus colours and will always steer away from yellow and orange. I should try to be a little more adventurous and wear something brighter!

  8. I like how you know yourself so well when it comes to colors!
I learned from Amy Hendrix that we must embrace what we're born with and work with them. I have black-brown hair and brown eyes, so all warm + some yellow in my skin. Therefore cool colors (the opposite of warm obviously) tend to be more striking against me.

  9. I'm not sure I know myself so well as to feel confident about which colors look good on me but I DO love color! Your stash looks incredible ... gosh, all us knitters could open our own stores!

  10. It's great to see you using orange, which is one of the colors I shy away from. I do have a dear friend who is big into orange - maybe I can start by making her something, to build up my orange bravery?

  11. That is such a beautiful stash of colors. Color is so wonderful and with the rainbow to pick from, why limit yourself, yes?

Although, you just made me realize that I lack orange in my stash. I'm going to need to remedy this :D

  12. Orange.....thank you Evelyn of ProjectStash for sending me orange during last year's Blog Bub Yarn Swap. I would never have ever picked that hue.but now it is such a fun accent color and I do gravitate toward the orange color family now. I made a fun hand bag with that yarn and get compliments on it all the time. (Nigh Duck on my Ravelry project page).
As for this topic.... as I was preparing to write and take photos, I put all that I have made (and kept for myself) into piles and I was so proud of how much I have accomplished. it was also fun to look at the project pile as a "collection" and think about what it said and what it meant. I really loved doing this topic and learned so much about myself. The predominant color in my projects and stash was olive green even though red is my favorite color. Go figure!
