Still in Process This Fee-Fi(ber)-F.O. Friday

Happy Friday, everyone! While I have no finished projects (still), I do have some progress to report. Note to self: pick smaller projects.

So, remember this crochet cardi's humble beginning?

Now, it's starting to show signs of cardi life:

I am particularly pleased with the yarn - both fiber and color. It's Plymouth Yarn's Grass, a cotton/hemp blend. I'm loving the drape, as well as the goes-great-with-jeans colorway (#9089). I'm a little farther along now than when this picture was taken, so I'm almost ready to complete the edging in the front and start on the sleeves (it's a long-sleeved cardi). The original Doris J. Chan-designed pattern called for ties, but I think I'm going to instead hit my button stash. Additionally, the top-down construction is allowing me to try it on as I go. I love that!

And remember my crocheted version of the Citron shawl:

Well, it's growing steadily, and now looks something like this:

I'm actually a little farther along. It's due to be completed by the end of June, since it's a test for the designer. It still looks like a lettuce leaf; the magic is definitely going to happen when I block this little green beauty. I hadn't realized the original, knit version was made for the 2007 holiday season. Things to keep in mind.

Finally, I received this lovely fingering weight yarn in a swap package:

This colorway is just awesome. There are some superb yarn handpainters out there - I think this is a prime example.

I hope each of you have a fun Summer Solstice weekend, and check back with Andrea's blog to see everyone's fibery acts of derring do!

  1. Great projects! The cardi is sassy and I am in awe of your crocheted citron. I do wish I could just pick up the crochet hook and make magic happen but it never works that way so I'll live vicariously through the gorgeous crochet projects you create.

  2. That cotton/hemp yarn's texture looks interesting. Is it soft? What pattern are you following to crochet the Citron rather than knit? What a fun colorway you received!

  3. Ooo, pretty yarn! Looks like the cardi is coming along pretty quickly. I started designing a new crochet shawl but I'm to a point that I need to stop and write everything so far down and I just can't make myself do it, LOL. I should work on it during the day, because at night when I usually knit/crochet my brain is tired and does not want to be taking notes.

  5. Wow, that is a lovely dye job on that yarn. The colors blend so nicely.

  6. @WonderWhyGal: No biggie on the crochet challenge. There's still plenty of knitting challenges I need to master. :)

@Kepanie: The cotton/hemp is soft, with a slight linen-like "bite." It should get softer with wearing/washing. And the crocheted citron is the "Critron." You can find it on Rav, but it's not published just yet because we're still testing.

@ToadinaBoat: Oooh, a new crocheted shawl. If you're looking for a tester ...

@Evelyn: Thanks - the cardi is definitely my challenge at the moment - but I'm enjoying it.

@Dutch Hollow: It's from a European indie dyer RingaRosie. The colorway? "Almost Perfect." :)

  7. The colors in the last picture are simply divine! I like the look of your Citron. That's another advantage crochet has over knitting -- you can see the whole project at any time. Knitting? it's a big bunch of tangled strings until blocking!

  11. The cardi is very intriguing. I somehow never get around to trying "summer" yarns so I'm glad to have a recommendation for one (to balance out the wool stash, y'know). You'll have fun with that new skein.. I wonder what it wants to become?

  15. @Vivian: Well, just wait and see how the Critron blocks out - magic will happen, I tell you. :)

And thanks to everyone for comments on the cardi. I'm enjoying it and the yarn far more than I expected. :)

  16. I thought that cardi had Doris Chan's design stamp all over it. :) I love her work. It's a gorgeous drape, you're right. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
